Where We Started

From 2015 to 2019, we organized weekly futsal meetups in the Third Ward neighborhood of Houston at Melcher Gymnasium. During that time, over 1,700 members joined our Meetup community and each Tuesday, new and longtime Houstonians from countries all over the world would meetup to play futsal and socialize over post-game drinks.

Our Cause

Through our Ball-A-Block program, we work to identify and flip neglected concrete structures in our urban Houston communities into public street soccer courts for players of all ages. Ball-A-Block is our DIY version of the Adopt-A-Block program, but in the process of picking up litter, we are also creating public play spaces for Houstonians to enjoy.

Neighborhood Futsal League

Around this same time, we created the Houston Town Futsal League (HTFL) where teams comprised of adult coeds of all skill levels play under the team name of the local Houston town (neighborhood) they live and/or work.

Community service projects are counted toward points in the HTFL league table and used as a tie-breaker when seeding for the playoffs.

Club Teams

The players of Houston Town Futsal Club are comprised of existing Houston Town members (Houstonians) that frequent our weekly indoor and outdoor pickups. Currently, there are Houston Town teams that compete in VOLT League on Sunday nights and the SportSocial Premier League on Tuesday nights.

New Identity

The first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic, we worked with a local graphic designer from the University of Houston’s CreationStation to help us create an identity for Houston Town Futsal Club that best represents the city and all Houstonians.

When construction forced us to move from our original home and then the pandemic from the other, our members came to the rescue and helped us secure a new indoor court at Lutheran North Academy in the Heights where we currently host pickup on Tuesday and Friday nights.
